Laika (Russian for ‘Barker’) is the name of the first dog proudly sent into space by the former U.S.S.R. This project is an animated promo telling Laika’s story that “you’ve never been alone until you’ve felt like Laika.“
The video was produced by Shroomstudio to coincide with the Album launch of Vronsky’s debut album – Throat Specific Mixture at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell, London. The video was projected live to kick off the event and was followed by a full live set of the album tracks.
The promo video uses a blend of animation techniques to narrate the tale of a stray dog, picked from obscurity off the streets of Moscow and trained to become a national icon of progress, becoming one of the first cosmonauts to leave the planet. Rotoscoping and a blend of 2d/ 3d techniques produce a style representative of the period in the 1960’s when Laika was first launched into space, never to be seen again.
